Fire Prevention

Turn Your Attention to Fire Prevention

In an effort to reduce the loss of life due to home fires, the Pelham Fire Department installs smoke detectors in residential structures within the city limits. Homeowners will be provided up to three smoke detectors at no cost, along with a form to help families develop an escape plan should fire break out inside the home. The devices are provided to our department by the State of Alabama.

Residents of Pelham should call 205-620-6500 to make an installation request. Detectors will be installed between the hours of 8:00 am and 6:00 pm Monday through Friday, unless there is a request for a weekend installation.

Any smoke detector older than ten years should be replaced, so we encourage you to check the age of the devices in your home. We encourage residents to check smoke detectors monthly just to be sure they are functioning properly. Feel free to email the Fire Department for more information on the proper placement of smoke detectors or other fire prevention education information.
